  EN – The Gravity of One is a long-term series that reached its peak during the 2019 pandemic. The works examine the growing isolation of contemporary society and the exaggerated focus on the individual. Initially conceived under the working title Ego, the series reflects on the New Age fascination with ego dissolution and its paradoxical effects: practices intended to serve the self often lead to the opposite, eroding social skills, communal bonds, and the sense of connection. Through painterly gestures and a reflective visual language, the series investigates the subtle ways in which social and emotional life can be undermined, revealing the hidden consequences of hyper-individualism.

Les œuvres examinent l’isolement croissant de la société contemporaine et le focus exacerbé sur l’individu. Initialement intitulée Ego, la série réfléchit à la fascination du New Age pour la dissolution de l’ego et à ses effets paradoxaux : ce qui est censé servir l’individu conduit souvent à l’inverse, affaiblissant les compétences sociales, les liens communautaires et le sentiment de connexion. Par des gestes picturaux et un langage visuel réfléchi, la série explore les manières subtiles dont l’hyper-individualisme peut miner la vie sociale et émotionnelle.

Die Arbeiten thematisieren die zunehmende Isolation der Gesellschaft und den übersteigerten Fokus auf das Individuum. Ursprünglich trug die Serie den Arbeitstitel Ego und reflektiert die Faszination der New-Age-Bewegungen für den Ego-Tod sowie die paradoxe Wirkung solcher Praktiken: Was dem Einzelnen dienen soll, kann das Gegenteil bewirken und soziale Fähigkeiten, Gemeinschaft und Verbundenheit untergraben. Durch malerische Gesten und eine reflektierende Bildsprache untersucht die Serie, auf subtile Weise die Mechanismen, durch die Hyperindividualismus soziale und emotionale Strukturen schwächt.
